Do you have much trouble with lightning striking the antennas? Do you have a tv antenna up there as well? I think I would!

Hi crazy. In 2000 I got hit real hard. Took out all my stuff including hand held radios that were setting in chargers. But where I am at now I have never had a problem.

And yes there is a tv antenna up as well along with a multi dipole aray antenna hanging in the trees behind tis pic. It is about 65 feet long.
The one you can see hanging on the pole (looks like a bunch of wires) is about 125 feet long.

Thanks Tom,
You have some nice stuff also.
I like the Atlas 210.
I had one way before I got my ham ticket.
Used it for SWL.

Is that a TM-V7 I see?
I have one of those and the display went out. (as you can see in post #2) Last time I talked with Kenwood it was like 150 for the parts.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Buddy,

Yep that was the former set up behind the 210X...... FT-100D (fantastic little black balled rig that beats the socks off of it's alleged replacements) and a TMV7A.... never had an issue with the display on mine, even though the rig itself had been very highly abused before I rescued it and just in case, I did check into the cost of the screen replacement in the head and yeah, $150 is about right. Glad I never had to bother with that. I must have had the only remaining line free screen in the country that had not been replaced. :)

KC4UMO
01-04-2008, 08:14 PM
Kewl.
Well guess you are lucky eh?
Seems like every one I had talked to had this problem.
I bought mine used and really did not use it much. It had a couple of lines across it when I got it. Later when I decided to use it, lost it all.
Go figure.

I seem to be constantly changing and expanding the shack here. I think I need to take and upload some new pics.

I have made a minor change or two in the shack, the main one being the scissor microphone stand which makes it quite easy for shifting it out of the way and then bringing it straight back to the operating position, quite handy!

Done a little rearanging in the shack over the past few weeks.
Got tired of all the radios being on top of each other. And with a concrete floor it was impossible to hold the dust down so I covered it.

By next week I will be adding a Yaesu FT-736r to the table.

Super nice set up Buddy. Looks great! Looks like you have an RS receiver. I had one of those when I was a kid. it was a good receiver. I should have never got rid of it.

I have two of those units. One is only parts now. It was in bad shape anyway and some major parts quit in the good one. So scraped the bad one to fix it. Still have some tiding up to do. Have to finsh the floor under the table but may wait a week.

Here is my shack starting from the left a Workman (local company) 25A regulated powersupply, a cheap straight-key/oscillator, my Icom 706 (original model), MFJ Versa Tuner II. On top of the tuner is part of the portable collection.

Nice setup. That 706 will get the job done. What type of antennas you have?

I'm jealous, somewhat, of all the nice shack setups. I don't have that much room for such setups. Anyone recommend or have ideas for setups in small areas? I currently live in a duplex and don't want to have any interference with my neighbors. Although if it effects the stereo they like to play loud all day long, I wouldn't mind.

Keith,

At this time I have a 10m omni also made by Workman (is actually an 11m base cut down for 10m), and a home brew 2m super j-pole. I will be hanging some wire for HF but have a small back yard so I am still working out what type/bands I'll be putting up.

The 706 has been working well, last year on Field Day I worked Fiji and Kwajalein on 20m with around 80 watts into a 20m dipole. On 10m I have worked 30 states as well as the UK and Vancouver B.C.
