There are several reasons that we are to wait upon the Lord to lead and teach us in the spiritual things of God by way of the Holy Spirit.
We ask God in our prayers to lead and guide us in doing His Will for our lives. We have to have the patience to wait for the guidance we are asking for. When we act before we receive this guidance, we will usually make the wrong choice.
A part of my daily prayer is for God to grant me the wisdom, guidance and patience that I will need for this day. The patience I am asking for here is the patience that is needed to wait for the guidance that I asked for.
Following are some scriptures concerning waiting on God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Psa 25:3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.
Psa 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Psa 25:21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
Psa 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psa 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Psa 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
Pro 20:22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Lam 3:25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Lam 3:26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
Hos 12:6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
Mic 7:7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
Act 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Gal 5:5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
1Th 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
