Problems with spammers

I see that you all are also having a problem with uninvited and unwanted spammers. The names of the spammers at GoKarters.com are the same as the spammers at theologyreview.com. It's interested that both forums are being targeted by the same spammers.

I did an IP check and found them to be primarily from Russia, Asia, Amsterdam and the Middle East. We were averaging about six new spam-registrations every day from these foreign locations. The only way I could stop them from posting was to deny posting privilages to new registrants until they are approved by the administration.

I think that spammers are the evil wave of the future.

It's been a problem for awhile. Has gotten worse lately.
Other sites are also having the same problem.

Just some of the pesky vermon we have deal with in the public.

They can't hurt us. I have more time to delete them than they have to post.
I delete, edit, and ban everyday.

Sissy 12-24-2006 09:39 PM

Here's a list of the ones who have been banned:

I will try to keep the IP addresses in numerical order. Some have registered more than once using a different e-mail.

It appears that the same spammers are visiting your forum as well. I see a pattern developing:

@etradeoil.com
@gawab.com
@cashette.com
@gmail.com
Generally, gmail is reputable, so I'm surprised to have received so many spams from that domain. Regarding cashette.com, I looked them up and they claim to be "anti-spam," so it's ironic that spammers are using them for spam.

TheologyReview.com no longer allows new posters to post, until they have been approved by management. I didn't want to do that, but I'm forced to, due to the volume of incoming spams. Plus, I am getting complaints from posters about advertisements for erotic spams that "were" being posted.

I don't just delete posts, but I delete entire accounts on a daily basis. Yes, it's getting worse everywhere.

Bots do the spam-postings... not humans. So you might want to consider how much time you have on your hands. LOL. And then you can delete this post (not this thread). :thup2

Sissy 12-25-2006 02:11 PM

I'm at home everyday, all day, so I have time.
Between myself and the other mods at this site none of the spam posts will remain for very long. Everyone is keeping a look out for them.

I haven't had anyone complain about the spam posts (yet!).
I think most are understanding that this happens and we take care of it as soon as we can. Everyone just skips over it and knows it will be deleted or edited sometime during the day.

They are really wasting thier time by posting here. I don't think any of our members come here to find that sort of info, so they aren't going to get any business from here!!!!!!!!

But I may continue to post every single e-mail & IP address.
If someone wants to send them every piece of junk mail they can muster, it won't hurt my feelings!!!

Any mod can keep the list updated in post #3 as they ban anyone for spam.

Seems that I read that that is exactly what they want you to do. And what that does is give them good IPs and email addresses to hack into. So it unless you have some secure way of doing it, it might be best to just ignore and delete.

Sissy 12-26-2006 01:30 AM

Right.

I don't send them anything.

But if someone else wants to, be my guest!

Problems with spammers

I would do a search on them within these forums, as a few people have had problems with them over the past couple years. Me included - they refused to pay me until I threatened to sue them. They are nice when they are signing you up and all but after that, forget about getting through to a rep

crazy 11-22-2009 02:17 PM

Thanks for the help. Things have calmed down quite a bit. This post is actually about 3 years old.

It is nice to stay vigilant though. :407:
