Linux 101

I have recently loaded CentOS onto my other computer and am running it as a Gnome Workstation. The installation went smoothly but I have a learning curve ahead of me mastering the UNIX based file system and command line operations.

If you are beginning LINUX as I am, I’d like to offer my condolences to you along with this tutorial link:

Also, here is a glossary of terms that will help you to find a place to begin your educational journey:

Come learn with me and I’ll cheer you on (for those lightbulb experiences) and maybe you can show me some pointers. Right now, I’d be happy if I could just learn enough LINUX to back up my hard drive.

A bit late to this thread, but still relevant anyway.

At my job we Red Hat Linux, CentOS and Ubuntu.

I would strongly recommend Ubuntu for anyone interested in Linux.

Apart from working right out of the box, it is configured with security in mind. It encourages you to use the sudo facility for everything and has apt for updates.

If you like the KDE desktop there's also kubuntu which you can install.

I've been using Linux for a few years now and there's no chance of going back to Windows again, unfortunately I've got to use Windows at work. I use PCLinuxOS, I've been using it for about a year now.

Been thinking of trying Linix/Ubantu but am still doing more research. Been using windows from day one (Windows 3.0) and am kinda partial to it but i am, however, open to trying a new OS. :arf2: :stirthepot:

I'm a big fan of Linux, I have several Linux machines, ranging from Redhat, Mandrake, SuSe, and soon Ubuntu. I am not a guru however by any means, but I like the stability of Linux over windows, as well as the price.

If I ever get some extra cash I want to build a linux machine for a server. Then move the website to it.
