My former next door neighbor was a General Class ham and the only transmitters, receivers and transceivers he owned were all for RC aircraft and boats. He had some AWESOME toys. I asked Mike why in the world he didn't at least get an HF rig and work a little DX....... he asked me what I got out of talking to people I didn't know and wondered why I didn't get into RC modeling.
Well, that wasn't exactly what he said, what he said was, "Why would I want to sit around talking to a bunch of old fat white dudes like you?"
He was as smart as they come........ he drowned in Lake Hartwell while retrieving a boat that had failed. I miss Mike, he was a great neighbor and as far as hams go, the most different of us I have ever met.
