This was too cool! I passed these links onto some friends.
Now I'd hate to be the neighbor of those houses, but what a cool thing to watch...a light show in your backyard...wonder what his power bill was? |

So we do away with Christmas across the board, let's say.
No one celebrates it, or it turns into a "holiday" as called in other countries. Now we have NO reference to Jesus at all except for easter, and that's a whole other can of worms. Are we shutting opportunity off to spread the Word? We have a time of year when many are lonely, many are sad, many hit depression...many that could be open to Jesus at this time of year. Do we use what we have today, since we can't go "back" to the days before the RCC made this pagan holiday. Did Jesus use what He had to work with, in the "time" He was in? |

No offense but do we have other verification of that fact about Constantine ... I've seen some other articles and I do know the 25th is a page festival and the church tried to make something good out of a bad day. As far as ppl being lone, sad and depressed it does increase this time of year and being one who suffers from depression and SAD could that not be a part of it. We have ppl in this condition year around. In the winter they will isolate more. Also, is part of the reason because we do make such a hoopla and family event of it that it only increases their awareness of being lonley? All the 'bling' that goes along with Christmas - shopping, presents, spending time with friends and loved ones that just makes those who are already alone more aware of their loneliness unless they are able to take hold of that and reach out to others. Just some thoughts. |

Having a good 'ol time at Christmas is not the problem. Anymore than having a good 'ol time at 4th of July.
The problem (as I see it) is that there are many who actually think December 25th is a holy day. And we keep right on letting them think this. We could do the same with 4th of July. Afterall, doesn't Christ give us our true independance? But should we even attempt to try and say that the real reason for 4th of July is Chirst, and that it is a holy day? After doing this for years, it would eventually be thought of just like Christmas - folks would think it was an actual holy day. And of course we would have to invent a Christ-like symbology for fireworks!!!! We who know what the real origin of 4th of July would role over in our graves! BC, I think you make a good point about the lonely at Christmas. We may have packed even more loneliness on them when they see CHRISTIANS passing them by so they can get to Wal-Mart before it closes!!! What must they think of our faith when they see this happen? What priority do they witness in us on a day that "supposedly" is a holy day unto the LORD when it actually isn't? Let's face it folks. They want to take Christ out of the word Christmas. They want to take away the manger scenes. But, that Christmas TREE and all the hubbabub that goes with it is still OK. That right there ought to make you wonder if the TREE really has anything to do with Christ. If it did, they would be pitching a fit about it too.

MY in-laws claim the tree stands for the tree that Christ was born to die on.
But I have yet to hear WHY or how that part of it came about, who started it, etc. They hang a rusty nail on the tree as a reminder. (more like a spike) |

By the way, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that God probably isn't real happy that we celebrate this.
I brought this very fact that we celebrate Jesus' birthday during the wrong season to the kids at dinner last night and asked what they thought. One said, what's the big deal? He gets a huge party! Everyone's happy! But later he said, well, I wouldn't want anyone to celebrate MY birthday on the "wrong" day...maybe God isn't so happy about that. (he's 6, remember) I asked them if their friends were more excited about the presents and santa, or was it the ultimate gift that Jesus came to earth for us? And they admitted they don't hear much about that from their friends except in Sunday school. Everyone is talking about what gift they want...they admitted that it was not right. They also asked if they GIVE gifts, are they helping their friends, or hurting them by forgetting about Jesus? |

Hopefully Christians will help to set the record straight. Christians should be standing up for the WORD of God, not some long-standing, man-made tradition.

I rest in the Lord as any other day, while I pray for others who are running themselves ragged!!!!
But it was not always this way for me. Took a while to let go of that old habit. It has been a relief, to say the least. But let me repeat ..... I do NOT go ballistic because someone else is still in that habit. Just sharing some research and how that path led me to feel the way I do about it.
