My former next door neighbor was a General Class ham and the only transmitters, receivers and transceivers he owned were all for RC aircraft and boats. He had some AWESOME toys. I asked Mike why in the world he didn't at least get an HF rig and work a little DX....... he asked me what I got out of talking to people I didn't know and wondered why I didn't get into RC modeling. Well, that wasn't exactly what he said, what he said was, "Why would I want to sit around talking to a bunch of old fat white dudes like you?"

He was as smart as they come........ he drowned in Lake Hartwell while retrieving a boat that had failed. I miss Mike, he was a great neighbor and as far as hams go, the most different of us I have ever met.

A neighbor of mine and his son are into planes pretty big. I know nada about them, but he claims that the one his son has cost over 5 grand. All I know is that they are really fast, and he is good with the controller. Give that baby to me and I promise you some quick kindling.

My nephew is into model planes big time. He has scratch built a few. His biggest one is a DeHavalin (sure I butchered the spelling) Beaver. Its got a 6 foot wing span. It is awesome to see it fly. I used to have a little glider that I flew. I wasn't a great pilot. It died when I hit the barn with it wide open. I leave the flyin to my nephew now. I just found a smiley on here making an obscene gesture! Did you guys see that? Good thing they don't have that on QRZ. It would get used daily.

The little glider I had was about 80 bucks. It was made out of foam and plastic. It came with the controller and batteries. I crashed it 100 times at least before I killed it. I know $80 isn't chump change but compared to expensive ham equipment it isn't too bad. If you ever get one I highly recommend one of these because they can be crashed a lot while you're learning to fly. Just don't hit the side of a barn at full speed or it will look like this
