1000 years
Revelation 20
(1) And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. (2) And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, (3) And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (4) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (5) But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. (6) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. (7) And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo, literal or figurative?

OK, but can we say that it has a literal beginning and ending point (no matter what the literal timeframe is?

To a point--but it is important to remember that God lives outside the contraints of Time as we know it, so John is trying to express things that our limited human minds cannot grasp, and his limited human vocabulary cannot truely express.
We know that the battle IS won because God lives in the Eternal Now, and for Him, it is already a Reality, while we, stuck inside time, must wait to see it played out. |

Yeah, God may be outside of time, but we are not.
John could have just said that Satan was bound for a time. But he didn't. He gave a specific time period. Not only that, but repeated that same time period five more times in that chapter.

He stated a time period, but not neccisarrily a specific one.
1000 yrs. could easily be stated to mean simply 'a long time'. Its like the 144,000 listed in Rev. Do you think its EXACTLT 144,000 people, or just a common Hebrew expression for "a lot"? Same with Jesus telling Peter that we must forgive 7 X 70 times. It does not mean that the 491st time we do not have to forgive. |

But it does have a beginning reference point and an ending reference point. Quote:

And, I can forgive forever. But that doesn't mean I condone allow someone to keep doing what they are doing.

1000
the AFI is revealing their new top-100 list, a 10th Anniversary edition of "100 Years, 100 Movies." They will be compiling a new list of the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time. I know a lot of people are annoyed by these lists, but I actually enjoy them. I tend to approach them in much the same way I approach the Oscars -- its a tacky affair, but its fun.
Anyway, although the AFIs original top 100 list was nothing to write home about, I find it interesting that 10 years later, two films from that list still have not made their way to DVD. The African Queen 1951 and The Jazz Singer 1927 are still out there in limbo. It seems that I heard somewhere out there that The Jazz Singer will be released either later this year or next year. Im not particularly looking forward to it. It holds historical significance as the first major talkie, but one viewing was sufficient for me. The African Queen, on the other hand, is a true classic, and why it is still unavailable is beyond me. Youve got Kate Hepburn, Bogie, Huston, and a wild river adventure, and that equals a great time Does anyone have info on this movie? |

..These shows are just promos that have been on for the last 10 years..if you got 3 hours to waste..theyre okay..but its just a way to get you to buy the same films over and over and over again..its always the same clips too of course..yes African Queen still not on dvd is strange..it must be rights issues with Bogies estate otherwise it woukd have been on dvd years ago..
