Found a site about Christmas in Egypt.
The following is a quote:

Quote:
The origin of the word Christmas:
And the angel said unto them, fear not: for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a saviour, Which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11-12)
According to the recent researches, it is proved that the word "Christmas" is of an ancient Egyptian origin. (emphasis mine) Where this word is consisting of two parts: Christ & mas; Christ is the Lord, but what is mas?
Mas is an ancient Egyptian word means: to be born or Birth. The word is drawn in the Hieroglyphic language -the ancient Egyptian language-as follows:
(((I did not attach the hieroglyphic symbol, but it can be seen at this site:
http://www.christmasarchives.com/chr..._in_egypt.html)))

Quote:
The name of the ancient Egyptian king "Thothmas" means: the Birth of Thoth -god of wisdom. Therefore, mas means Birth. Hence, "Christmas" means the Birth of -Our Lord Jesus-Christ.
Guess everybody wants to claim they have the true origin of "CHRISTMAS".

Found this part interesting from Esther's link above;

Quote:
Usage controversy
Some Christians, albeit a minority, feel that the practice of having "Christmas Trees" is prohibited by the Book of Jeremiah 10:1-5 which says,

For the customs of the people [are] vain: for [one] cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. KJV.
Interpreting those verses as a ban on Christmas trees may be more common among individuals and Christian denominations that are part of the King-James-Only Movement.

In other English translations of the Bible the verses more explicitly refer to the practice of making idols to be worshipped:

For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with a hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good. (emphasis added) NIV
A full study of the passage shows that the people would cut down a tree and work it with a chisel to engrave an image in it. They would also carry it from place to place as an object to be feared and worshipped. The only consistencies with Christmas tree customs seem to be that both are made of wood and both are decorated.

Some Christians, again a minority, feel that since "Christmas Trees" are not biblically ordained, they should not be used. Such individuals and Christian denominations are unlikely to celebrate Christmas at all, for the same reason, such as the United Church of God.

Good observation JAM.
I have a few comments (big surprise!)
My comments will be in blue.
The article you quoted will be in black.
All bolding of the quote are my emphasis.

Yep, there sure was some emphasis added!

They would also carry it from place to place as an object to be feared and worshipped. The only consistencies with Christmas tree customs seem to be that both are made of wood and both are decorated.

A full study would have included the practice of worshipping the god Tammuz which means “sprout of life”.
For a pretty good link about how Nimrod (tower of Babel) is the origin of just about every pagan god there is with their various names and stories, see the following:
http://reluctant-messenger.com/2-babylons50.htm

In short, Nimrod dies. His wife (some say he married his mother) has a son and names him Tammuz, claiming that he is the rebirth of the spirit of Nimrod.
(Tammuz is mentioned in Ezekiel 8:14.)

It’s the same basic story no matter what culture or name was used – the father god, the mother goddess, and a son. It’s the unholy trinity.

One of the many rituals the pagans used to worship their god was putting children in fire.
This was the basis of the Yule Log being placed in the fireplace.
Yule means infant.
It represented a sacrifice by fire (infant in fire) to worship the glorious “rebirth” of Nimrod through his son Tammuz.

The most common practice that lasted through the ages was folks would cut down a tree (representing the death of Nimrod), throw a log into the fire (the sacrifice of worship), then decorate the tree (to represent a glorious rebirth).

Some Christians, again a minority, feel that since "Christmas Trees" are not biblically ordained,

No. We KNOW they are not ordained.

they should not be used. Such individuals and Christian denominations are unlikely to celebrate Christmas at all, for the same reason, such as the United Church of God.

OR, the reason could be because we have studied on our own without being associated with any particular church.

It might do us good to study the origin of BABEL.
BABEL is said to be the origin of all paganism.
It needs it’s own thread.

I found that interesting as well. I'm still on the fence about sending it to a certain person who was totally against Halloween, but not Christmas in the way it's celebrated without Jesus.

Hey JAM,

I enjoyed reading for my kids Lisa Welchel's Adventure of Christmas, and Ornaments of Christmas Joy: Meditations to Draw You Nearer to the Miracle in the Manger by Mary Grace Birkhead. I just picked up 101 ways to a Christian Christmas. I guess for me, it's easy to get lost with all the busyness. I like how Lisa & Mary Grace's books brought it back to a Christ Centered focus. I've also enjoyed being reminded of the 3 wise women, Mary, Elizabeth and Anna. I like the stories that focus on the bible. My problem is I need to start my cards in October & not December, lol.

Default Most hypocritcal Christmas song?

This song popped into my head last nite at work (that subliminal radio) and I'm think lets give thanks to the Lord above for Santa Claus? Oh Please - so I did a google this morning to view the complete lyrics and copied and pasted - now I haven't check every lyric site but they didn't even capitalize Lord. Sigh!

Here Comes Santa Claus

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,

Right down Santa Claus lane

Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer

Pullin' on the reins

Bells are ringin', children singin'

All is merry and bright

Hang your stockings and say your prayers

'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,

Right down Santa Claus lane

He's got a bag that's filled with toys

For boys and girls again

Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,

Oh what a beautiful sight

So jump in bed and cover your head

'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,

Right down Santa Claus lane

He doesn't care if you're rich or poor

He loves you just the same

Santa Claus knows we're all Gods children

That makes everything right

So fill your hearts with Christmas cheer

'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,

Right down Santa Claus lane

He'll come around when the chimes ring out

That it's Christmas morn again

Peace on earth will come to all

It we just follow the light

So lets give thanks to the lord above

That Santa Claus comes tonight!

:sansml :shakehead :xmastree:

Put your lights on the inside of your house so you can enjoy them without going out into the cold dark night! :jum
